ABOUT US

Chevelo Farm is located in between Marshalton and Unionville, in Chester County, PA, about 45 minutes west of Philadelphia.  The name Chevelo combines the passions of owners, Carolyn Worthington and her husband, David Chauner:  horses and bicycles.  “Cheval” in French is horse and “Velo” is bicycle.  Carolyn has been involved in the horse world for over 25 years.  David is a two time Olympic cyclist and produces the Philadelphia International Cycling Championship, noted for the Manayunk Wall, now in its 26th year.  They have two sons who have recently graduated from college, Bucknell and Penn State University.

HORSES

Chevelo Farm offers boarding, short term layups and retirement opportunities for show horses and race horses.  Chevelo Farm has a particular focus in retraining off-the-track race horses for new careers.

For over  15 years, Worthington also has produced the Healthy Aging® Campaign, a national initiative promoting positive information for successful aging.  The underlying theme is “it is never too late to get started on the road to better health.”  Worthington applies this theme also to the horses.  “I believe even though an athlete may not be able to excel in one discipline, with time and proper training, each one can go on to live a long and happy, healthy life.  That goes for people and horses and that is what we try to accomplish here.”

LOCAL PRODUCE SUPPLIER TO RESTAURANTS

During the growing season, Chevelo Farm also sells produce to select restaurants.  Worthington studied cooking in France followed by a career in the food and television world .  With an interest in the Buy Fresh/Buy Local campaign, Worthington began selling vegetables to local restaurants two years ago.  “We are very much a part of the local mission to help preserve the land and to do our part to keep farming alive – be it as a boutique farm raising vegetables for small restaurants or helping horses find new careers.”
